A long overdue review about my recent experience at Crowborough Opticians. The service was one of a kind and rare, the type you do not really experience nowadays! I am a glass-wearer for most of my life and had so much trouble to find suitable and well fitting frames with adequately thinned lenses. The team (with Anne (hope I remember the name well) helping me all way through) was honest, not trying to sell but guided me gently to find the best glasses, and made the whole experience so much better than usually is. If you know a person living with dementia that needs their eyes tested, I can highly recommend Matthew Smee. I chose him because I hoped he’d be used to dealing with older people as there’s a hearing centre attached. He has experience of working in care homes for over 10 years and 33 years experience. He was a lovely man, he found really good ways of asking questions to get the answer he needed. Instead of using technical words like photochromic lenses, he said, when you go outside, do your glasses go dark? Do you like that to happen? He was kind, patient and didn’t rush us at the end to make decisions and was really clear about different options. The experience was a pleasure.
